​Billingsgate Ward Club Introduction

​​A Ward Club, as its name implies, is concerned with its ward or voting district of the City Corporation. The Ward Club’s objects require the Club to support the Lord Mayor and Corporation. The Club’s most important function in this regard is to try and ensure that the voters in the ward take an interest in the Corporation’s activity and, in particular, exercise their vote. The intention of the Club is that they should achieve this through a careful blend of information functions with those of a purely social nature.

The second way the Club provides support is by giving the members and their guests an opportunity to see the many different facets of City life, both those of the Corporation itself and of other organizations which make up the commercial City.

The Billingsgate Ward Club was formed in 1928 by W. H. Cork, grandfather of the former Lord Mayor, Sir Roger Cork, a longstanding member and Past Master, as was Sir Roger’s father, the late Sir Kenneth Cork.
